Dysevolution: Bodies Out of Time

2023

The human body has remained almost unchanged for hundreds of thousands of years, yet civilizations and lifestyles have changed drastically. This lecture performance explores the concept of "Dysevolution", proposed by Daniel Lieberman, Chair of Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University.

It suggests that the slow pace of human bodily evolution cannot keep up with modern civilization, resulting in widespread uncured contemporary ailments such as obesity, insomnia, flat feet, cavities, myopia, and diabetes. While technological advancements have improved healthcare and extended lifespans, they have also brought about prolonged exposure to chronic diseases born from our civilized environments.
